The challenge

While a leader in the legal and tax industries, Thomson Reuters risked losing its majority stake.

Small and large competitors were relentlessly modernizing their product experience and experimenting with emerging technologies to leap ahead. The organization was low on the design maturity matrix. And “Inefficient or strained” best described the relationship between design and their product and engineering partners.

We needed to evolve our products to become customer centered instead of feature centered as well as transform how we delivered in order to remain the leader.

I focused on

-organizational partnerships

-customer and metrics driven vision

-operational optimization

-design excellence and innovation

-building top talent

Continuous learning was key through a regular cadence of retrospectives, measurable OKRs to address the gaps while celebrating the wins, and working closely with executive partners and my 60+ person team on product acceleration and team transformation initiatives. I navigated from high level annual planning to creating a future vision of our products while also personally coaching groups and individuals. These efforts to evolve our products and our practice resulted in a team maturing into an efficient, customer-centric, and collaborative team equipped to launch a new version of the flagship product and 8 Gen AI features across 3 products in less than 3 years.

in 2.5 years, all on time, all exceeding sales targets

I organized my team to launch a new version of Thomson Reuters’ flagship product, Westlaw Precision with a skeleton crew while up-skilling my team to lead in the organization as the most collaborative and integrated after 1 year’s time. With the lightning entrance of Gen AI technology, I then led my team to launch the company’s first Gen AI features for Westlaw, Practical Law, and Checkpoint. AI insights evolved the legal and tax research practice by saving customers’ time while uncovering more valuable information. These aggressive launches came with my leadership in driving operational optimization, collaborative partnerships, research-driven designs, and design experimentation.
